The way we view and use identity has changed dramatically compared to the pre-digitized world. Almost every day — and likely, multiple times a day — we're asked to provide our identity in some way to various entities, whether it's to conduct online banking, to check on our health care records or to agree to a background check, for example.
In many cases, these identifications are relatively easy to fake or steal, which adds a whole additional layer of complexity. How does a company know someone is who they claim to be? More importantly, how can that company verify this without the person having to jump through multiple hoops? What information are these organizations looking at? What are they doing with it?
